Mr. Abdel Mohsen Shaaban

After numerous meetings and discussions with industry contacts from around the globe, Tobacco International magazine is proud to announce its choice for 2007’s Tobacco Man of the Year: the Head of Tobacco Leaf Sectors for Eastern Company, Mr. Abdel Mohsen Shaaban.

Mr. Shaaban began working for Cairo-based Eastern Company in 1975, where he began his career as a Tobacco Expert Trainee. He has since been promoted to serve in various management positions where he has helped Eastern diversify, launch new product brands, and enhance its position in the international market place.

Supervising and providing sound guidance and direction to Eastern’s expert leaf tobacco staff, Mr. Shaaban has been a driving force for the company’s tobacco business development, strategies, and achievements. In his role as Chief Technical Auditor he has ensured the operational efficiency, effectiveness, and economy of blending operations, ensuring the top-quality of all of Eastern’s blend formulas. Years of in-depth training, background experience in the industry, and an astute grasp of international tobacco markets, have helped Mr. Shaaban guide Eastern into the role as the world’s sixth largest manufacturer of premium cigarettes, extending its reputation throughout Egypt and the surrounding region. Identifying and penetrating emerging markets through a keen grasp of worldwide tobacco market analysis and sound management, Mr. Shaaban’s leadership has kept Eastern Company in the forefront of the tobacco manufacturing sector.

With contacts throughout the industry, Mr. Shaaban has made sure to stay abreast of all contemporary issues relating to his field of expertise.
